NFL Tickets- What Will Happen to Vick and Burress?
Being without a team this late in the offseason generally isn't a good sign for a top-rated player, especially if your name is Plaxico Burress or Michael Vick. Plaxico Burress is probably the lesser of the two offenders, since he isn't the one who is just finishing a federal sentence. The wide receiver had a run-in with the law that eventually led to him being dropped by the New York Giants.
That offense, which was a charge that he possessed and fired an illegal gun, was supposed to be decided on earlier, but the ruling was pushed back to September. The delay has quieted many of the teams who previously expressed interest in him. He has more to worry about than just the ruling, however, as NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is notoriously stiff on actions such as this. Goodell recently initiated a probe into his actions, and one insider suggested that Burress could be suspended from the league indefinitely.
Burress' troubles pale in comparison to Vick's, who has suffered the scorn of the millions of animal lovers out there after he was convicted of funding a dog-fighting ring. Not only did his actions land him nearly two years in a federal prison, they turned him into a PR nightmare for any team who wants to take him on. The former multi-millionaire filed for bankruptcy protection, and in the meantime he is working other jobs. He started out at a construction job and has moved to working with kids at the Boys & Girls Clubs.
Even if a team does try to take a chance on the wayward quarterback, Goodell isn't expected to go easy on Vick either. Vick played with the Atlanta Falcons before his incarceration, but he has since been released from the team. Getting NFL tickets online this season may not be a way to see either player, but then again, anything is possible.
Burress' future looked bright from the beginning, being picked up in the first round of the 2000 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers as the eighth overall pick. By his second season with the Steelers, he was starting every single game. In 2001, he tallied 66 catches, 1,008 yards and six touchdowns. He joined the Giants as an unrestricted free agent in 2005 and was a key component to the team's success. He made headlines when the Giants won the Super Bowl following the 2007 season by catching the game-winning pass. In his career, he has tallied 505 catches, 7,845 yards and 55 touchdowns.
Vick had a similarly promising start to his career. He caused quite a buzz before the 2001 NFL Draft, where he was quickly snatched up by the Atlanta Falcons. He played eight games and started two his first season, tallying a passer rating of 62.7. By the next season, he was the team's starter. In his career, he tallied 11,505 yards and 71 passing touchdowns. Vick was almost as praised for his rushing game, and between 2001 and 2003, he tallied 3,859 rushing yards and 21 rushing touchdowns. He hasn't played in the NFL since 2006.
