Akumal is an Unknown Mexican Paradise
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to visit a beach paradise? Well, Akumal, Mexico is one of the best beach paradises not known to man; as this is one of Mexico's best kept secrets. This little Mexican town has many things to offer. The small community filled with sandy white beaches, and deserted coastline, is a hot spot for newlyweds, and couples. Three bays in the city provide activities, like snorkeling, and scuba diving. Akumal is definitely the hidden gem of the Caribbean.
Akumal provides tourists with numerous fun activities. This small town is ideal for snorkeling and scuba diving. Akumal Bay is home to calm waters and a reef just offshore. The marine life along the reef is considered some of the most beautiful and bountiful in the world. Near Akumal Bay is a series of underwater ridges, and caves. You can spend hours exploring the amazing caves, and looking at giant sponges colored in pink and orange.
Yalku Lagoon is a coastal lagoon rich with marine life. Large amounts of sea grass attract sea turtles from all around Mexico. (Even the sea turtles like Akumal!) Yalku Lagoon is the perfect place to bring kids and any loved one. Another popular thing to do is fish in the bay. The best months to fish are April through July, and Mahi Mahi, King fish, Wahoo, Tuna, Sailfish, and Marlin are all in season. All fishing is catch and release to preserve the pristine marine life. In addition, taking a bicycle ride around Akumal is a fun and relaxing thing to do.
The best way to get to Akumal is to fly to Cancun and rent a car. The drive from Cancun to Akumal is about 1 hour. Another way to get to Akumal is to drive all the way there through Mexico. Akumal is located near the Gulf of Mexico, South East of Mexico city.
